Aswanley Wedding Photographer Review

Fantastic and Unspoilt Barn Venue

Aswanley, the home of the Ingleby family. Aswanley is situated in the unspoilt valley of the River Deveron, on the edge of the Grampian Highlands near Huntly, Aberdeenshire. It’s been a much-loved family home for many generations and now doubles up serving as one of the best wedding venues in the North East of Scotland.

In owners own words “The venue consists of a secluded fortified house, magical gardens and spacious Victorian barn. The barn boasts all the features of a country house wedding venue and the comfort you would expect to find in a private estate in the Scottish Highlands, but with the scale and flexibility that many wedding venues cannot offer.”

Aswanley is provided to their customers as blank canvas. It can be turned around into a work of imagination and be a perfect match for the most demanding couples. Additionally, hire includes everything you need, from chairs and tables to a well equipped catering kitchen, including cutlery, crockery and glassware.

If even that is not enough to convince you that this could be a wonderdul place for your celebrations, I’d suggest talking to Lauren or Sarah, one of the two coordinators available on site.

Wedding Themes

I’ve seen a number of themes hosted within these walls. Due to the type of venue prevalent themes include traditional, vintage, rustic, sustainable weddings.

Ceremony Options

Aswanley offers both indoor and outdoor options for ceremonies. The fireplace room, right in front of the baronial fire, is a great indoor choice. If you are planning on having a large ceremony, you can use the ballroom which can seat over 200 people.

Outdoors, if you don’t mind taking the risk of Scottish weather on, you can choose to face the elements and say your vows next to the old ash tree, or under the 16th century stone arch. You would be overlooking the river Deveron valley.

If you would rather get married in a church, St. Andrews Glass is nearby.

Reception capacity

Aswanley is a converted barn. Rightfully so, the capacity is one of its clear advantages. In banquet style setting you can have 150 guests sat for dinner and not have to move a single table for your first dance. This is a rather unique feature as most venues have around 1-1,5h turnaround time between the dinner and first dance, to accommodate reshuffling of the furniture to get ready for the party.

Guest accommodation at the venue

Accommodation-wise – there is not much guest space at the venue. Aswanley offer access to three nearby holiday cottages:

  • Wester Park, a spacious 3 bedroom, perfect for the wedding party
  • Straitinnan, a 2 bedroom, minutes from the victorian barn
  • Jock Milne’s, a cosy 2 bedroom, secluded in a forest clearing

The barn is also close to Huntly, with its Castle Hotel, just a short drive away from the venue. Perfect choice for large groups. For more information about Castle Hotel CLICK HERE.

Keith, Aberlour, Craigellachie and other villages that have a range of AirBnB options as well as some B&Bs.
