I had an absolute pleasure photographing Emma and Richard on their wedding day. We had met for the first time at their engagament shoot at Haddo House just a week before the big day. We thought Emma had twisted her ankle that day. Not the best start if you ask me, but from then onwards everything went as smoothly as possible! I knew we were going to not only create some lasting memories but we’ll become friends.
Boy was I excited when Emma told me about her plans to give the celebrations a bit of the Harry Potter mood. The venues were perfect – from Thainstone House with its beautiful interiors looking almost like the dormitories of Hogwart’s school of magic to one of the most stunning churches in the area – St Machar’s Cathedral.
Being the awesomest human beings Em & Richie decided to encourage their guests to make donations to a foodbank instead of giving them wedding presents. They were inspired to act after listening to a sermon by their minister, Rev Barry Dunsmore, who told the Bible story of the Rich Man and Lazarus from the Gospel of Luke.
The “presents” – tinned goods, toiletries and dry foods – were donated to a charity in Aberdeen called Instant Neighbour, which assists people who often have to make a choice between paying the bills and putting food on the table.
